5 Ways to Cultivate Trust to Strengthen Intuition and Inner Wisdom

posted in: Uncategorized 1

This morning I pulled an Angle Card as part of my daily practice. Have you seen them? It’s an adorable box containing 52 playfully illustrated keywords that help you focus on particular aspects of your inner life. I like to use them as a way to focus on a particular energy to meditate on throughout the day.

I shook the box and mixed the small cards around a few times. I reached in and pulled TRUST out of the box. It immediately resonated with me as recently I’ve been stepping into more vulnerability in my life and business and TRUST felt like a gentle reminder acknowledging that I am following my path.

Dictionary.com defines trust as: reliance on the integrity, strength, ability, surety, etc., of a person or thing; confidence.

The definition got me thinking more broadly, it got me thinking about what it is that I teach in my coaching. At the heart of Love Yourself Now is trust. Trusting self to have the integrity, the strength, the ability to move through life confidently, trusting in the unique inner wisdom.

So for today’s mindful moment, I thought I would share some key ways that I teach cultivating trust in your inner wisdom. The result of cultivating these aspects within yourself is that you open to greater intuition and inner knowing.

5 Ways to Cultivate Trust to Strengthen Intuition and Inner Wisdom

1. Know who you are.
This is the foundational work I teach in my unique Love Yourself Now 12 Week Journey. Your unique personality, your authentic essence, is the foundation of your power. Get to know it well. Understand who you are and how you move best in this world. This is a process of getting comfortable in your own skin. When you know yourself, you can move through life with increased grace and confidence. Insecurity and self-doubt have no room to grow in this environment.

2. Honor your daily practice.
Another fundamental aspect of the Love Yourself Now 12 Week Journey is crafting your own, unique to you, daily practice. A daily practice allows you time to calm the chaos and rejuvenate your mind, body, spirit on a daily basis. The key is to make the daily practice something you look forward to, not something you dread. This is your sacred time just for you, so carve out 10 to 60 minutes everyday to refresh and renew yourself in anyway that brings you joy.

3. Surround yourself with the right people.
Hanging out with people who sap your energy or pull you down depletes you and has you second guessing your inner wisdom. Learn to be non-negotiable and protective about the company you keep. When you build your community with others who are strong inside, you get the added support and reflection of their energy to compliment your own. Keep company with others who celebrate you and mirror your positive outlook.

4. Love your body temple.
It can be hard to trust your inner wisdom when you know your are making unhealthy decisions for yourself along the way. Make a strong effort to honor your body temple. Eat well, move your body, and dress yourself in ways that make you feel good about yourself. When you feel good about yourself both on the inside and the outside, your whole self is in congruence and as a result you deepen your trust for self.

5. Connect with your passion and purpose.
You were born with unique gifts and talents and when you engage in them you tap into your deep inner wisdom and your full potential. When you activate your passion and your purpose, you create more flow, more success in life, and cultivate greater feelings of confidence and life significance. Linking your passion to your purpose provides a great sense of fulfillment and trust that you are on the right path in life.

My greatest successes, personally, have come when I let go of judgment and have trusted my intuition and inner wisdom. The rough times, those times I suffered from depression and anxiety have been the times when I allowed self-doubt and self-sabotage to lead me. Trusting myself and having faith in my inner wisdom have been the greatest assets that I’ve been able to cultivate. Try the 5 ways above to cultivate your own!

4 Tips for Crafting a Daily Practice

posted in: Uncategorized 63

I want to hear about your daily practice.

As part of my daily practice I start the day by spending some uninterrupted time with myself. I look over yesterday to see where the moments of joy occurred, and identify those less than ideal ones too. I’ve replaced my “news” addiction with a guided meditation (I love the app called Insight Timer) and I spend a moment calling in the energy for the day that I desire. My daily practice shifts and changed according to my mood, but my daily practice itself is non-negotiable.

I thought I’d share a few tips for beginning a daily practice in today’s Mindful Moment.

1. Pick a time that suits you best.
I’m a morning girl, I love starting the day fresh and clear, but many of my friends are evening peeps, and enjoy the reflection that comes from an evening practice. Whatever time of day works best for you, use that time for a few moments of uninterrupted YOU time.

2. Make it just for you.
It’s tempting to share your daily practice with a friend or lover, but I’d caution against it. When you can carve out “alone” time, you give yourself a personal gift, a time just for YOU. This personal time is an opportunity to drop into your authentic essence, to drop the ego, and to bathe in the uniqueness of your own spirit.

3. Mix it up.
Just like an exercise routine or a specific diet can get boring, so can your daily practice. Give yourself permission to mix up your practice. For example, some days I meditate in bed, all cozy under the covers, and others I am outside surrounded by birdsong. Some days you might want to journal, and others you might enjoy a walk in solitude. The goal here is to create a daily practice that feels good to you, that brings you inner joy, and that shines a light on your inner landscape. Bottom line: have fun with it.

4. Be kind to yourself.
When you begin any new practice, there are always starts and stops, so don’t beat yourself up if you miss a day, a week, or even a month. Growth happens when you notice that the practice has faded, that’s when you can pick it up again with love and kindness. It’s when you come back to that which you desire with a grateful heart, that you begin to make it non-negotiable.

When you give yourself personal time alone everyday, you begin to listen to your intuition more, strengthen your inner wisdom and develop an authentic relationship with yourself. All of this creates deeper self love and helps you to know yourself more deeply.

Do you already have a daily practice? You can share your tips with us below. And as always, thanks for reading this moment. I welcome your thoughts and comments, so don’t hold back.

Be grateful for the VIP in your life.

posted in: Uncategorized 77

In today’s Mindful Moment, let’s take a look at gratitude from a perspective that is often overlooked. So often our gratitude practice is externally focused… gratitude for family, gratitude for nature, our pets, our stuff. But don’t forget that VIP in your life — yourself.

Today, I want to encourage you to take a few minutes to allow deep gratitude for yourself… for your incredible body that carries you through every day… for your intelligent mind that is always thinking… for your caring heart that beats without effort. Let’s take time and be grateful for all that makes you the unique, beautiful human that you are.

Our mind believes what we tell it, so if we are listening to a constant stream of “I’m not good enough” in our head, then we begin to live from that belief.

“If all you’re thinking about is that you need to lose weight, you’re not remembering to be grateful that you’re strong…” — Shana Lebowitz

When you tell yourself positive things about your life, you get better about believing and living from this positive perspective.

Take a couple of deep breaths now and allow yourself to shower yourself with these affirmations. Feel them melting into you, warming you, spreading throughout you.

I am grateful for my body.

I am grateful for my bodies ability to heal.

I am grateful for all the systems that function within my body without a conscious thought from me.

I am grateful for my heartbeat.

I am grateful for my breath.

I am grateful for my heart and my lungs.

I am grateful for my wellness.

I love my body.

I accept myself just as I am now.

I thank my body for serving me today and every day.

My body is perfect just as it is.

I am grated that I am uniquely me.

I celebrate my life and my body.

I choose to be confident in all areas of my life.

I am confident in my skin and for who I am.

I am beautiful inside and out.

I am a radiant being.

I am magnificent.

I love my body.

I love myself.

I am blessed and I am grateful.

In her article on INC. Amy Vetter says “Self-gratitude can build confidence and help you face any challenge when no else will.”

So I want to challenge you to include gratitude for yourself in your daily practice. If you need practice, join my 7-day Gratitude Event happening now on Facebook or Instagram. I’d love to know what you’re grateful for.

4 Signs to Know It’s Time to Take a Break

posted in: Uncategorized 7

Here’s the bad news! As a society, we’re pretty bad at giving ourselves permission to take a break.

And once we do give ourselves that long desired respite, we find it difficult to unplug completely.

Infact, in a recent Glassdoor report , many of us leave half of our allotted time off on the table. And I think it’s even worse for entrepreneurs, who say finding the time to take off is difficult.

And to add to that depressing statistic, according to Glassdoor, 66% of those who do take time off are WORKING on their vacations. So much for decompressing…we’re addicted to busy…

Here are 4 clear signs to know when it’s time to take a break.

  1. Your personal wellness is suffering and you are making yourself ill. This could show up as eating more fast food, skipping lunch, not drinking enough water, and forgoing movement and exercise. You catch more colds and cases of flu, your stomach and body aches, you suffer backaches, headaches and just feel crappy, yet you continue to push on. When we start to notice ourselves pushing our wellness aside in order to work more, this is a clear sign we need to take a break.

  2. Your personal life begins to fade away. When you start to feel disconnected or isolated from your friends and family, that’s a huge wake-up call. Ryan Frankel shares this story in Forbes “I recently asked a highly regarded serial entrepreneur what she regretted most in her career and she didn’t hesitate when she told me that she would trade all of the dollars in her bank account for lost quality time with her parents, husband, siblings, and children.” Quality time with those we love and enjoy is one of our most limited resources, so learning to maximize the investment in our relationships is key.

  3. Your tossing and turning all night and can’t get a good night’s rest. You find yourself having trouble falling asleep, and then when you finally do, you find yourself wide-awake thinking about work at 3 am, leaving you exhausted the following day. When we’re under stress the body can take on a hyper-alert state that can disrupt the restorative part of your sleep cycle. If you find your sleep suffering, this could be a good indicator that you need a little downtime.

  4. Your turning to wine or weed or unhealthy food choices to decompress from the stress of a busy day. When we use these substances habitually to bring us relief, we know they’ve become coping mechanism due to overwhelming stress at work. Those of us who are experiencing chronic stress and burnout may be more vulnerable to using alcohol, weed, and food as ways to ease stress in favor of healthier options like exercise, meditation and a healthy diet.

Health expert Dr. Mercola says “In short, many Americans find it hard to find a suitable work-life balance that allows them to pay the bills and earn financial security while still spending time with family and having ample free time for their own sanity.”

If you find yourself suffering any of the above, you know you’re overdue for some rest and relaxation. I challenge you to pull out the calendar and carve some personal time off for yourself in the next few weeks. You’ll thank me afterward!

Share your commitment to some downtime with us below. And as always, thanks for reading this mindful moment. I welcome your thoughts and comments, so don’t hold back.
